Bernard Drew, Berkshire Eagle columnist and historian will be speaking at the William Cullen Bryant Homestead on Thursday, July 7 at 7 PM as part of the Rebels in the Hill Towns lecture series. The topic is Col. Budd of Windsor and Notchview.

Lt. Col. Arthur Dryhurst Budd was a West Point graduate who had a distinguished military career especially during the First World War from which he emerged as one of the most highly decorated American soldiers. Upon his retirement he and his wife Helen settled in Windsor and engaged in building Notchview Farm which upon his bequest is now the popular Notchview property of The Trustees.

Bernard Drew has a unique pespective on the colorful Col. Budd having done extensive research on his life to include in his published “History of Notchview”. Also, Bernie grew up at Notchview as his father was employed by Col. Budd for many years and has interesting personal stories.

This talk is of particular interest to the many skiers and visitors to Notchview to learn what it was like “back then”. All are welcome to learn about one of Berkshire County’s more colorful personalities. The lecture will be in the parlor at the Bryant Homestead, 205 Bryant Rd. in Cummington. Members of The Trustees are $5, non-members $10. For information contact 413 532-1631 ext. 1.
