American Roots artist, Katelyn Richards, captivates audiences with her fresh charm and sex appeal. Her radiant charisma draws in her listeners but you are quick to be informed that Katelyn Richards is not your American Sweetheart! Her songs are about the knitty gritty. Katelyn is lustful and passionate and her set leaves you with the desire to smoke a cigarette.
Katelyn was born into a broken family in Quincy, Massachusetts. Beating the odds, she is the first member in her family to graduate from college earning a degree in Sociology at UMass Amherst.
In 2008, Katelyn’s birthday present was her first guitar and songwriting naturally followed. In 2009, while working in a school for behaviorally challenged underprivileged children, she discovered there was a market for acoustic singers in the bars of the surrounding towns. She booked gigs with the help of other local artists. Success quickly came to Katelyn and she launched a full-time singing career in 2010.
Katelyn’s powerful voice was also featured in the band, The Others, a side project of The Thungs with Shannon Purcell and Gabe Sullivan that wrote full-length albums about the television drama Lost. She was featured on Season Three and extensively on Season Five.
By early 2012 Katelyn released her first full length original CD, “Have Yours Too.”
“Katelyn Richards’ voice has a combination of bluesy whiskey scratch and slightly nasally cheerleader feel that’s both versatile and mercilessly endearing, and she uses it in a wide variety of ways on this eclectic album. Her style traverses a spectrum of genres from country to rock, pop and jazz..”
